Label posts to facilitate planning

I'm still figuring this blog thing out as I go. I just discovered that if you're putting up a NEW post you can label it in the space at the bottom right corner of the post window. I'll do it on this one.

If everyone would do this, it'll make it easier for us to look at all the posts related to things like clean-up, food, entertainment, games, etc.

I'll look at the previous posts to see if I can add labels to them. I'm thinking if it can be done after the post was uploaded maybe the person who wrote the post is the only one who can do that.

Janie

P.S. I was able to add labels to everyone's previous posts. If you create an original post, try to remember to add labels. (Click on "Show all" in the lower right corner next to the label box and use the same labels I've already used when possible. If you need to create new ones as new topics come up, that's OK, too, but remember the purpose is to allow us to follow threads on different topics so we don't want TOO many labels.

Copy of Doris's May 6 email

Just for the sake of having this in the Blog record, I'm posting the message Doris emailed to many of you last week. I know she didn't have everyone's email addresses at the time she sent this out so maybe more people will be logging in as news of the blog spreads through the family. Janie

From Doris:

In case you have forgotten, the reunion is scheduled for July 10-12--only 9 weeks away! We've lost a very important member of the family since the date was first set last fall, but Marvin, I know would be the first to urge us to keep the date. Mary Jo as well encouraged us to go ahead with plans. I'm sure we'll all feel Marvin's presence when we gather at Hooks Point and we will honor him by attending.

Even though Mary Jo is ready and willing to put up with us for the weekend, it is a big undertaking. On March 31 she and Lee Ann made preliminary lists of what needs to be done to get the site ready, groceries needed in advance, meals to be catered, suggested activities, needed items to be donated, purchased, or rented (See earlier blog post). Janie, who rode back to Iowa with Mary Jo and Dolly in early April, suggested a reunion blog might be the way to not only get out the information but to get everybody's help. She researched setting up the blog and by clicking on the link above you can see the result.

All of this technology makes my head swim, but I know that of the approximately 90 names on our family list, we've got a lot of "authors" and "followers" out there who can figure it out and will be posting their blog. To show my faith I offer the first 10 bloggers, big or small, young or old, $10 each from my just-received Obama stimulus social security economic recovery payment. How's that for an incentive!?!

Congratulations to LeeAnn, Amber, & Marty!

As far as I can tell, you are the first 3 to sign into the blog and LeeAnn's the first person (other than me) to upload a post! So, where are the rest of the Engelbys? Don't be scared...we won't sell the mailing list! Mom (Doris) and I are having a little trouble getting her up and running as an author, but we'll get there.

I've just sent an email to everyone whose emails Doris has inviting you all to be Authors of the blog. If you click on the link in that email and follow the instructions that come up, you too can put original posts on the blog---YOU can be a leader, rather than just a follower (followers can comment on posts but can't originate a post). PLEASE upload a photo to the blog so we know who you are---otherwise we'll end up with a whole bunch of the non-descript little icons on the page!

I hope we can get most everyone signed on as an Author or a Follower or both so we can get going with the serious reunion planning SOON.

Engelby Family Reunion 2009

Hello Engelby Family!

We're just beginning to plan the next fantastic Engelby Family Reunion and we thought we'd take a leap into the 21st century and try blogging for our planning. Heck, if it worked for the Obama Campaign it should work for us, right?

So, as soon as Janie, Mary Jo and Doris figure out how to make this work, and we get the basic information set up, get everyone on board and online. Hopefully this will help us get more people involved in the logistics ahead of time.
